Plumbing for coffee machines
Some coffee machines run from a tank you refill by hand. Others are plumbed in, with a water line from the mains and often a drain.
We run the water line with its own isolation valve, fit a filter if the machine needs one, connect the drain and test for leaks. The price is fixed before we start.
Before we come out
- The manual. It lists the water connection, the pressure range and whether the machine needs a drain.
- The position. How far the machine will sit from a water point and a drain.
- The filter. Whether the supplier recommends one.
- Power. Many commercial machines need their own power outlet, which an electrician installs.
Do commercial coffee machines need plumbing?
Most commercial espresso machines are made to be plumbed in, with a mains water connection and usually a drain. Refilling a tank by hand can’t keep up in a busy cafe, and a plumbed-in machine always has water.
Smaller home and office machines often run from a tank and need no plumbing. The manual for your machine says which it is.

Built-in and plumbed-in home machines connect the same way: a water line with an isolation valve, and sometimes a drain. Tell us the model when you book.

What does coffee machine plumbing cost?
The price is fixed before any work starts. It depends on:
- The distance from a water point and a drain.
- Access through walls, benches and cabinetry.
- A filter, if the machine needs one.
Checking the job and pricing it is free on weekdays between 7am and 5pm, when there is no call-out fee. Book online and you’ll save $50, once you accept the quote.
