We find and fix gas leaks, connect cooktops, ovens and heaters, and run new gas lines for homes and businesses across the Sydney metro area. Every gas job is priced before work starts, and the compliance paperwork is lodged when it is finished.

If you smell gas right now
Gas smells like rotten eggs or cabbage. If you notice it:
- No flames, no sparks. Put out any naked flame, don’t smoke, and keep your phone away from the smell.
- Shut it off and air it out. If the gas meter is safe to reach, turn the supply off there. Then open windows and doors.
- Get everyone outside. Once you are out, let Jemena, the company that runs the gas network, know about the leak.
- Ring a licensed gas fitter to track down the leak and repair it. We take those calls at any hour.
Recent gas jobs
Blacktown, October 2026: a corroded gas line found and replaced
A client had a strong smell of gas coming from underground. We ran gas leak detection to find the source, then cut in and dug up the gas line. The old galvanised line was badly corroded and causing a major leak. We replaced the valve and the line in new copper, and diverted the new line under the building. That keeps it away from the rest of the old galvanised pipe, which may leak in future.

Quakers Hill, September 2026: a gas detection panel replaced
In a science lab, the gas detection control panel had a transmitter fault. We serviced the unit, but it needed replacing, so we fitted a new one. Everything works and the gas is back on.

Seven Hills, July 2026: old gas pipework leaking
The old gas pipework had started to leak. We cut out the leaking section and replaced it with new copper pipe and new gas valves.

How a gas job works
- Phone 1300 301 354 and describe the job, or what you can smell or hear.
- A licensed gas fitter arrives in the window agreed when you book.
- We find the problem and price the work. Nothing starts until you agree.
- We do the work and test it. Gas work is pressure tested for leaks before the gas goes back on.
- We lodge the paperwork. For natural gas, a certificate of compliance goes to Building Commission NSW, as the law requires.
Gas compliance in NSW
In NSW, gasfitting work is licensed work, whatever its size. On a natural gas installation, the finished work is tested and then certified. The certificate of compliance must be lodged with Building Commission NSW no more than five business days after the work is finished. Since 1 March 2026 the only accepted way to lodge it is the eCert portal.
LPG work has its own paperwork. A compliance plate goes on the installation, the owner gets a certificate of inspection, and the gas fitter keeps a copy for five years. The certificate is also lodged through eCert within five business days. Changing a gas cylinder is not gasfitting work, and neither is plugging in or unplugging an appliance made to be readily detached.
Before your gas job
- Find your gas meter, and make sure the path to it is clear.
- Keep the appliance’s manual and its certification label handy if it is new.
- Clear the space around the appliance or the area where the work will be.
- Renting? Let your landlord or agent know about the job.
Gas heaters and carbon monoxide
Gas can produce carbon monoxide when it burns incompletely, and a gas heater is one of the sources in a home. NSW Health advises having a gas heater checked by a gas fitter at least every two years. Early symptoms of carbon monoxide include headaches, nausea and feeling weak. If anyone feels unwell near a gas appliance, get everyone out into fresh air. A carbon monoxide alarm near bedrooms and rooms with a gas heater adds another layer of protection.
Buying a gas appliance
Gas appliances sold in NSW must be certified and carry a recognised certification label, so look for it before you buy. Never use an appliance made for outdoors inside the house or in an enclosed space. Then have a licensed gas fitter connect it.
What does a gas plumber cost?
You get a price for every gas job before any work begins. Between 7am and 5pm on a weekday, coming out to look at the job costs nothing.
After-hours, weekend and public holiday call-outs cost between $275 and $385, GST inclusive. We set the exact fee when you ring. That fee gets a gas fitter to you, with about 10 minutes of fault-finding and small jobs like relighting a heater. Making the gas safe is usually covered as well. Further work is charged at normal rates, without an after-hours loading.
What goes into the price of the work:
- The type of work. Finding and fixing a leak is a different job to running a new gas line.
- The length and route of the pipe, and the access along the way.
- Parts and fittings, such as valves, bayonets or a regulator.
- Any appliance you want supplied as well as connected.

Gas plumbing questions
Jemena describes it as smelling like rotten eggs or cabbage. If you notice it, put out any flames. If it is safe, close the gas at the meter and let fresh air in, then get everyone outside and ring a gas fitter.
Usually, yes. Finding and fixing leaks the same day is what our licensed gas fitters do, and the phone is answered day and night.
Not if it connects to the gas pipe, because gasfitting work in NSW needs a licence. The exception is an appliance made to be readily detached, such as one that plugs into a bayonet.
Yes. For natural gas, we lodge the certificate of compliance with Building Commission NSW, as the law requires. For LPG, you receive a certificate of inspection and a compliance plate is fitted.
You apply to Jemena through its portal or through your energy retailer. Jemena checks whether your property can be connected, then fits the meter and runs the service line from the main. Since 1 October 2026, it charges the full cost of a new connection upfront, separately from our work. Your licensed gas fitter then connects the meter to your appliances.
Jemena installs and looks after its meter and the service line to it. Everything from the meter to your appliances is put in by a licensed gas fitter, and that pipework is what we test, repair and extend.
Yes. We do LPG (bottled gas) work for homes that aren’t on mains gas.
Yes. Changing a gas cylinder is not gasfitting work under NSW rules. If you smell gas after a change, turn the cylinder off and call a licensed gas fitter.
Yes. Moving a gas point means extending or rerouting the gas pipe, then testing it and lodging the certificate. It is quoted before the work starts.
Yes, including commercial kitchens and the gas safety systems in science labs. Our commercial plumbing page shows how we work with businesses.
