Emergency Plumber Hills District: Read This Before You Call

Upfront fixed quotes
$0 call-out weekdays, 7am to 5pm
Same-day service

If water is running where it shouldn’t in your Hills District home, a drain is backing up, or you can smell gas, you need two things: to stop the damage in the next five minutes, and a local plumber who tells you the price before touching anything. This page gives you both, from a plumber based ten minutes away in Seven Hills with 20 years on the tools.

Emergency now? Skip the reading: 1300 301 354 or book online. You get an arrival window on the phone and a fixed price before any work starts. $0 call-out fee.

Stop the damage before we arrive

  1. Turn the water off at the meter. In most Hills homes the meter is in a box near the front boundary or on a riser beside the driveway. In the newer estates it can be in a shared meter bank near the street. Turn it clockwise until it stops.
  2. Open the lowest outside tap to drain the pressure out of the pipes.
  3. Keep away from the switchboard and anything electrical near the water.
  4. If you smell gas: no switches, no flames, open the windows, gas off at the meter, everyone outside, then call.
  5. Take three photos: the leak, the meter reading, the damage. They help us quote and they help your insurance claim.

7 signs it can’t wait till 9am

  1. Water still coming after the meter is off.
  2. Sewage coming up a floor waste, shower, toilet or the outdoor gully.
  3. A gas smell, a hiss, or a yellow flame on a gas appliance.
  4. Water through a ceiling or a light fitting.
  5. Your only toilet out of action.
  6. A hot water unit leaking from the tank body that you cannot isolate.
  7. Running water you can hear inside a wall with every tap closed.

A dripping tap, a slow drain, a toilet that runs but flushes, lukewarm water, or a drip from the hot water relief valve can wait for the day rate. Ring us either way and we will tell you honestly which one you have.

The callout fee trap, explained

A small “attendance fee” gets a plumber to your door in Castle Hill at 11pm; the real price arrives once they are inside and you are in no position to say no. Our emergency fee, revealed: $0 call-out fee, day or night. We look at the job and give you a fixed price in writing before any work starts. The after-hours rate is higher than the day rate, and we tell you that on the phone before anyone is sent. Say no and you owe nothing.

9 ways to tell a plumber is about to overcharge you

  1. No price range on the phone, “until we see it”.
  2. An hourly rate with no estimate of hours.
  3. A verbal price only, nothing in writing.
  4. Work started before a price is agreed.
  5. Three new “urgent” problems found in the first ten minutes.
  6. A full replacement pushed when you asked about a repair.
  7. Full payment demanded in cash before the water is back on.
  8. No licence number when asked.
  9. Different business names on the van, the invoice and the website.

The question that stops it: “What is the total price to fix this, in writing, before you start?”

The 3 questions to ask any plumber first

  1. “What is your NSW licence number?” Check it on the NSW Fair Trading licence check. Ours is 339748C.
  2. “Is the price fixed before you start, and is there a call-out fee?”
  3. “What is your arrival window, and what happens if you miss it?”

Is your plumber even licensed?

In NSW plumbing, drainage and gas work must be done by a licence holder, and the business quoting you must hold a contractor licence. The number belongs on the quote and the invoice. Unlicensed work can void your insurance, cannot be certified, and leaves nobody to hold to a warranty. Thirty seconds online checks it.

Who pays for water damage?

The pipe repair is a plumbing cost, yours or your landlord’s. The damage to floors, walls and contents is an insurance question, and sudden bursts are what home and contents policies are written for, while slow leaks you knew about often are not. If you rent, NSW tenancy law treats a burst water service, a blocked or broken toilet, a serious leak, a gas leak and a failed hot water service as urgent repairs the landlord must fix promptly, and a tenant who cannot reach the landlord can arrange urgent repairs up to a set amount and be reimbursed. Photograph everything and keep the failed part.

Why cheap plumbers cost more

The cheapest emergency price on the phone is usually a callout fee, not a repair. The cheapest repair is usually a temporary one. You pay twice. A fixed price for a proper repair with a warranty is nearly always the cheaper number over a year.

What happens when you call us

  1. You tell us what is happening. We tell you how to make it safe now and whether it needs someone tonight.
  2. We give you an arrival window and the after-hours rate if it applies.
  3. The plumber arrives, finds the fault and gives you a fixed price in writing before starting.
  4. Yes, and it is fixed then and there in most cases. No, and you owe nothing.
  5. Invoice with licence number and warranty.

Your local Hills District plumber

Our depot is in Seven Hills, a few minutes down Old Windsor Road from Baulkham Hills, which is why we can give real arrival windows across Castle Hill, Baulkham Hills, Kellyville, North Kellyville, Rouse Hill, Bella Vista, Norwest, Glenhaven, Dural, Cherrybrook, West Pennant Hills, Beaumont Hills, Box Hill, Kenthurst, Annangrove and Winston Hills. Twenty years of jobs in these streets means we know the two kinds of Hills house: the 1960s to 1980s homes around Castle Hill, Baulkham Hills and Winston Hills with earthenware drains, big trees and 40-year-old copper, and the newer estates at Kellyville, Rouse Hill, North Kellyville and Box Hill where the usual failures are flexible hoses, pressure valves and builder shortcuts.
