Who is paying for all that advertising?

The biggest names in Sydney plumbing are the biggest names because they spend the most on advertising. That money comes from somewhere, and it is not the plumber’s wage. It is built into the price you are quoted. When you book a local, owner-run company, you are paying for the plumber and the parts, not for a marketing department. Same licence requirements, same standards, same warranty, minus the overhead.

The callout fee trap, explained

The most common complaint we hear from customers who tried someone else first is the same: a small “attendance” fee got a plumber to the door, and the real price only arrived once they were standing in the kitchen. By then you are wet, tired and not in a position to say no. Our answer is a $0 call-out fee and a fixed price in writing before any work starts. If you say no, you owe nothing and we leave.

5 things to check before you book anyone

  1. Get the total price in writing before they start. A plumber who does this every day answers straight away. “We’ll see when we get there” means the price is decided in your kitchen, after you’re committed.
  2. Check the licence number. Every NSW plumbing business must hold a contractor licence, and it takes 30 seconds to check online. Unlicensed work can void your insurance and cannot be certified.
  3. Match the names. The website, the licence, the van and the invoice should all carry the same business name. If they don’t, find out who you are actually paying.
  4. Ask who is coming. An employed, licensed plumber and a subcontractor picked up for the job are two different things when something goes wrong.
  5. Ask what happens if you say no. With us it’s simple: you owe nothing and we leave. Ask them the same question before you book.

What happens when you call us

  1. You tell us what is happening. We tell you how to make it safe right now, and whether it needs someone tonight or can wait for the day rate.
  2. We give you an arrival window, and the after-hours rate if it applies.
  3. The plumber arrives, finds the fault and gives you a fixed price in writing before starting.
  4. You say yes or no. Yes, and we fix it then and there in most cases. No, and you owe nothing.
  5. You get an invoice with the licence number and the warranty on it.
